Links to Professional Bodies

The APSM has membership of international organisations for medical physics and bioengineering, including the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). Benefits that can accrue from such memberships include reduced conference fees, reduced rates for publications, exposure to a larger range of information and expertise, and up-to-date knowledge of developments within the profession world-wide.

The APSM has formal and informal links with many other allied professional organisations. Informal links exist where APSM members are also members of other professional groups e.g. the Institute of Physics (IOP), the Biomedical Engineering Association of Ireland (BEAI) and the Institute of Physicists and Engineers in Medicine (IPEM). Many members of the APSM would also be members of these professional bodies, and in some cases, sit on various committees / SIG's of the organisations. Such informal links benefit the dispersion of information and communication between groups of people with a similar objective. In matters of European legislation, contacts with associations outside Ireland are beneficial and may prevent pitfalls already identified elsewhere from occurring here.

Formal links with other professional bodies can be looked into if requested by the membership. To do this contact a member of the Executive, and/or canvass support on the newsgroup outlining the benefits to the members of such a formal liaison.

A list of the benefits to members of the links with such bodies should be given, e.g.
